I worked out this past week at Kaia Fit in Boise. Kaia Fit is a women’s gym that has close to 40 locations mostly in the Western United States. I was able to do 3 of the types of classes that are offered at the gym. What made it really great was having a friend join me 2 of the 3 days.
First, I tried barre. I have done one other barre class before and it was at Kaia Fit. It was a great workout but very different than the types of workouts I usually do. I found this description of barre online at https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/body/a15841761/what-is-barre-your-guide-to-ballet-barre-workouts/
“Barre fitness is a hybrid workout class – combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Most classes incorporate a ballet barre and use classic dance moves such as plies, alongside static stretches. Barre also focuses on high reps of small range movements. “
I was not a dancer growing up so I have always been intimidated to try barre. I just didn’t think I was graceful enough. However, it was not necessary for me to worry. I enjoyed the class. It was challenging and a workout I would like to try again. What I liked most was the high reps with low weights. This is very different than workouts I had done in the past.
The next class I did was cross-training. We used bands, weights, and kettlebells. There were a lot of different exercises and we were kept moving the entire workout. I liked that Mindy, the instructor, took the time to watch form and give alternatives for each exercise so that everyone could work and challenge themselves, even though everyone had a different fitness level.
On Friday, I did the TRX class. Most, but not all, of the exercises were done with the TRX straps. I really like TRX because it is very challenging but easy on my joints. I hate to complain about aches and pains, but being over 40, I do have a couple. Cari, the owner, led the class. She also took the time to check form and give modification suggestions. That is one more thing they do well at Kaia Fit, they make sure each member has the opportunity to work at their optimum level.
I liked the variety of classes offered at Kaia Fit. I tend to do a lot of the same types of workouts. Many boutique gyms are like that. It is one specific type of workout that is done really well. At Kaia Fit you get one gym with a few different programs that are done well. I also like that it is all women. I do not mind working out in co-ed classes, but this had a great community feel to it. At the start of each class we introduced ourselves and shared a piece of information (based on a question by the instructor). I really liked that. I tend to go to work out and not ever really talk to anyone. Their sharing practice really helps lead to a sense of community which then is just another way to add accountability and then success to a program.

This coming week I will be interviewing the owner, Cari. I cannot wait to share more about here and her vision with Kaia Fit. If you would like to find out more about Kaia Fit you can visit their website at Kaia Fit Boise. They are located at 3415 N. Cole Rd, Suite 104, Boise, ID 83704. or call 208-908-2283.
