Mental Fitness

I am a perpetual self help junkie. I love inspirational quotes, books, podcasts, etc. My mental health depends on it. I see significant increases in work productivity and elevation in mood when I intake these things. My desire to work out and eat right is dependent on my mental state. Anyone else feel the same? Once a month (or so) I will share what I have read and listened to as a way to remind all of us that our mental workouts are just as important as the physical ones.

This month I am reading Grit by Angela Duckworth and Duped by Abby Ellin (I tend to have a couple of books going at a time). I am listening to Atomic Habits by James Clear on Audible. Currently I have 3 podcasts I love: Happier with Gretchen Rubin (she is my favorite person to quote), The Holderness Family, and Take it or Leave it. I do have 2 other short podcasts I listen to in the morning while getting ready that are more for professional development. They are Side Hustle School with Chris Guillebeau and Merriam Websters Word of the Day.

  1. I just listened to “Educated” by Tara Westover, which I highly recommend! This week I am listening to “12 Years A Slave”, also very good.
